The most beautiful towns and beaches of Liguria

Liguria is a narrow strip of a land in Italy, which is stretching, from the south along the emerald seacoast of the Ligurian sea till the French Riviera with its Nice, Canes, Monte Carlo. Hidden from wind by the Alps magnificent Ligurian towns are the best health-resort places of the country located on the green hills next to the beaches and warm sea in thick flavour of olive and orange trees mixed with transparent sea air. That is why in most cases when people ask how much is to rent a villa or a house at the sea in Italy they mind Liguria.
Portofino
Portofino is a sunny Italian town with thousand years history, great number of places of interest and just some hundreds of dwellers. This town became a place of solitude for welfare people from all over the world. Architecture of the town impresses with its beauty. Some houses are built just above the Bay of dolphins with its snow-white yachts. In the narrow green streets of the town you will find fashion boutiques, nice restaurants, hotels and museums. In Italy it is difficult to find sandy beaches better than in Portofino.

Rapallo
Rapallo is an impressive town with healing climate, many ancient places of interest, castles, villas and museums. This town is a favourite place of leisure for Hollywood stars, painters, writers and politics. A lot of concerts, enchanting show and exhibitions are held here. Rapallo is situated on the steep slope that is why there is a cableway with its final stop 600m above the sea near a Shrine of Our Lady of Montallegro built in XVI century. Rapallo's beaches are good but artificially piled up and rather short that is why during high season many vacationers go to the beaches of the neighbouring towns like Chiavari and Santa Margherita.
Sestri Levante
Picturesque town Sestri Levante staring its history from the days of the Roman Empire is located on a tiny promontory of the Ligurian east coast. From the one side it is washed with the waters of the Silent bay, which has a wonderful beach, rated in TOP 5 Italian beaches. It has absolutely transparent water and is really popular within families with children and fans of snorkelling. The town has lovely narrow streets, great number of medieval architectural monuments, churches, museums, castles and art galleries where the paintings by Rafael and Rubens are exhibited.
San Remo
San Remo is a prestigious international resort 25 km away from France with the best casinos in the Italian Riviera, luxurious hotels, villas and splendid sandy and pebble beaches. The most famous beach of three bridges with its soft golden sand has a unique bottom shape that contributes to waves suitable for surfing.
Aristocratic Englishmen has always loved San Remo.

Bordighera
Bordighera is world know thanks to its exotic gardens by Giacomo Pallanca and Winter. Bordighera can be divided into two parts: one part is luxurious with villas of rich and famous people, hotels, trendy restaurants and cafes and another part is the place where fishers used to live and nowadays ordinary citizens live. Bordighera has the same life rhythm as the neighbouring towns accepting thousands of guests from all over the world during Formula 1 in Monte Carlo, a song festival in San Remo, a film festival in Canes, as it is really close to Bordighera. The entire coast of Bordighera is covered with magnificent pebble beaches; the sea is warm, clear and shallow. This is the ideal place for a holiday.
Alassio
Age of this small resort town is 1000 years old and the place is worth of seeing. Almost all the houses are on the beach, ten meters from water. Long promenade is full of shops, cafes and restaurants, clubs and discos. There is a long stone mall with benches perpendicular to the sea promenade. Within a couple of hours' drive from Alassio you can reach any Ligurian town, and also Milan or the French Riviera. In Alassio the beaches are sandy, and many people consider them the softest and cleanest throughout the Italian Riviera. All the beaches here are equipped with rental stations, bars, tennis courts, and even a playground for riding.
